About this piece

I’d always felt that my high sex drive was an immutable, core part of who I was. Many of my choices were motivated by it, and while I knew that society held a negative view of highly sexual women, I was convinced I was acting from an empowered place, and therefore immune to society’s judgement.

Sex was my fast food… empty calories, a sugar high followed by a crash. What I didn’t understand at the time was that using sex as the sole repository for all the wild energy I had was eating away at my self-worth and wasting the creative power of this complex and deeply powerful life force within me. There was an empty space inside that ached for genuine intimacy and validation, but I wore my emotional detachment like a badge of honor for much of my adult life.

Directing photoshoots with beautiful women and men allowed my innate sexual energy to find another outlet. Their trust in my art activated a deep form of intimacy. The physical painstaking effort of isolating them from their backgrounds is an exploratory and sensual act. Rechanneling my sexual energy in this way put it back under my control and utilized it for the highest good of my spirit.

In the augmented reality, the Woodland Warrior subtly reveals herself and beckons you closer. Once she lets you in, her divine feminine energy expands and fills the frame. Through creating this work, I get to tap into my sexuality on my own terms. And over the years, it’s shifted into a deeply nuanced and rich energy that expresses itself through dance, through music, through art. And sometimes, through sex.

Women’s sexuality is an infinitely powerful, misunderstood and misused gift to humanity. Even the result of the sexual revolution, “free love”, was anything but free. Women are still judged and slut-shamed, still held accountable for the violence that they experience at the hands of men who are not expected to control their desires. I create women who own their sexuality and power. They neither flaunt nor hide it, they simply are it. They are inherently sexy and sexual beings because they are an expression of life force itself.

Sexuality is less about the actual act of having pretty good sex… much more about surrounding yourself with an ever simmering sensual energy, pulsing just underneath your daily life and infusing almost everything you do.
